Always a cuppa and or loo break going for members of the YDC who are passing when I'm at home. Same here in Peterborough.. Perhaps we should have a thread of friendly places where YDC members can call in for a free Tea/coffee/loo/warm up

Yes, good idea. YDC members always welcome here in cosmopolitan Hainault. At my age you have to arrange your ride outs with your loo stops

changed the oil and filter - just about to take the tank off and change the inline fuel filter, airfilter and plugs , spray the electrics and take apart the air box and clean up all the lines when it started spitting a few drops of rain so packed away - so just an oil and oil filter change it was!
To be continued wednesday when the sun shines!!

Last sunday I installed a HID kit and added reflective striping to my rims. Installing a HID kit might seem easy, but I had to strip the bike to properly route the power cable for the HID set. After that was done I spend the rest of the afternoon trying to find good spots under the fairing to put all the HID gizmos. Eventually I managed to tuck it all away. The striping looks really nice! Finishing this job put another job on the agenda though... It seems that Yamaha painted the fairing subframe with something that resembles shoe polish, because the frame rusts at every weld... Thanks for that Yamaha! I'll strip the bike again in the spring to get rid of all that rust, treat it with Motip alu Zincspray and then paint it with something decent.

Yep they need a little TLC I know, but there are a few things that need a lot more TLC I'm afraid On the other hand, rubbing a wad of neverdul over it isn't too much work... Would it be a good idea to first clean it up and then protecting it with some transparent tape?

I was seriously tempted, but the main goal was to install the HID kit before it got dark... And I'm not sure yet how to plug all the holes that are left after removing all the AIS intestins.

Drill out some 12mm dome nuts and stick them on with silicone or ask Reaper to make some proper caps for you. When done, you'll have room for HID, horn and kitchen sink.

Decided it had sat doing nothing for too long too busy. So let a friend take it out to blow out the dust, stall it twice pulling off the drive. fingers crossed it comes back

Bump started it (3 times) Plugged it back into the Optimate (again) when I got home. Will try a replacement reg/rect soon. Also the post had arived with my £3.50 (delivered) mini digital voltmeter, what I am going to wire into the dash. Hopefully, so I can monitor voltage as I go, and so maybe foresee elecktrickery failures.

That's handy. While you are at it fit a Speakon socket in the fairing for accessories. 20A rated and wont rattle out like a ciggy lighter plug. As for the fairing frame, get it powder coated. Cheap as chips and way better than paint.

Today I replaced my snapped brake lever and fitted fairing mirrors...very pleased with the result. Amazing how much better the new mirrors make the bike look (IMHO!) PS I have removed the bottom parts of the original mirrors now...I forgot to do them before taking the pics. I did toy with the 4 mirrors look!

mini voltmeter and 12v socket--- where do these come from good ideas.--has anyone installed a stereo??? The mini voltmeter has already proved useful. I've not fitted it yet, but when I had starting problems, I put it in a clear bag and taped it to the tank, with it wired to the optimate charging plug. After 5 minutes of riding (stopped at first set of lights) I found that the voltage at the battery was 12.5V at 4000rpm and 13.1 at 1200rpm. On a clear stretch of M-way, at 6000rpm it was registering 12.2-12.5V, and that was without the heated grips. Fitted replacement reglator last night, but cycled to work today (it's a bit too windy for my taste). www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Digital-Voltmeter-DC-4-5-30V-Green-LED-Digital-Panel-Meter-Ear-/140656552285?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20bfc8a95dWhen my wife's old Volvo 340 went to the scrappies 7 years ago, I removed the radio/tape player and speakers. I toyed with the idea of fitting it to the Kwak GT750, then to the 1990 XJ600 I used to have, but I wear earplugs while riding anyway, so no point, and car stereos weigh a lot.

Aldi recently had some noise cancelling head phones for about £15. Who knows, they might be powerful enough to cancel bike helmet wind noise or at least prove the concept. If they work there's "free" stereo via an ipod

I replaced my old rotten exhaust downtubes with nice shiny ones from Delkevic (took a couple of days due to inclement weather),
Replaced blown instrument bulbs. it was easier to undo the front fairing bolts and pull it forward than try and ferret around in the gap.
Replaced my left mirror.
And finally, replaced the small bolts in the front brake reservoir.
Next job is to replace the chain and sprockets. Hopefully we will get a day or two when we haven't got a gale blowing rain horizontally over the Christmas break when I can attempt it.

Next job is to replace the chain and sprockets. Hopefully we will get a day or two when we haven't got a gale blowing rain horizontally over the Christmas break when I can attempt it. Since when has the D9 acquired chain and sprockets As you correctly noted the D9 does not have a chain and sprockets and is undoubtedly the superior vehicle because of that. Because this thread is in the general section of Technical Info & Modifications I missed the reference to 900 in the subject as I only skim read it. However, as other D6 owners have contributed to this thread and expanded it ever so slightly from it's original topic (something which happens to a much greater extent elsewhere on this forum) I figured it was acceptable to share my own efforts to keep my trusty steed on the road If you were reading this thread as a D9 owner and suffered some mild shock to your sensibilites at the sight of a reference to a D6 I can only apologise, no offense was intended As this thread is in the general section of Technical Info & Modifications maybe it would be better to alter the subject to include all Diversions (and associated alternative rides)
