Hi all, New member, be nice, been reading your site since before Christmas well done for the info so far. Got a dead 1993 600 for winter runs, (I've a gsxr1000 for summer.) It was my brothers old bike that he run into the ground and stuck in a shed for 2 years. Took it to bits, shims, carbs, plugs, filters, bearings, swapped breather for hose pipe, filled 4 holes in exhausts, 2 shopping bags of oily rags later it was looking good. [img src="[/img] "] Took it to work for the first time last week, pleasantly surprised its a very love able old beast, I might go as far as to say its more fun than the 1000 as I see other bike riders on the way in. Problem is this New battery dead after 1 week, on tick over it charges at around 13/14v but when you put the lights on it only charges at 12.3 ish. Went over the charging system this weekend seems fine, Haynes gives a high charging rate but don't believe Haynes anymore. Is it a common thing ? Regulator seems ok , drops output at higher revs but this is normal for that age of rectifier. I drive in and home in the dark so I can see my battery dying this week as well. Don't want to spend any money upgrading if it's about normal to have a charging system that only work well with no lights. Is an older bikes suppose Appreciate any experience you hard core divvy owners might have. Promise to repay the favour ASAP Thanks Dom

Been there, done that. Got it off your forum last week but thanks for the answer.
With your lights on what does you divvy charge at? In fact if your feeling really generous could you give me light on and lights off charging rate at tickover ?
Also how do you put a pic in on this forum. I know you guys love a pic and I'm a terrible show off

Many folks use www.photobucket.com for pix. Some bikes dont give full power from the gennie until the engine is going at 5000 or more though that should be enough for the Div 600. Check ALL wires and connectors between battery and alternator for dirty/corroded connections. Unplug your regulator and measure resistance from battery positive to the regulator plug. It should be a very low resistance - effectively a short circuit. Also with regulator plugged in, make sure there is a very high resistance to earth. A low(er) resistance indicates a regulator fault. When my 900 regulator failed the main terminals sparked when connected to battery, but that did fail completely and boiled the battery as well. Leave the lights on with engine off for 10 minutes and measure battery voltage. It should be about 12V. If its down around 10V you might have a weak cell.

Me thinks that a new battery will solve your problem but I ain't had a D600 just lots of bikes & read lots of problems on here most got sorted with a new battery.
Them that wasn't usual had noticeable charging problems see CDs post.
