I have a 95 600 Diversion with electric pump fitted. Really struggles to start and battery normally gives up, but with persistance can be got running. I have taken feed pipe off (after the filter) and cranked engine over. No fuel pumping through, I am right in thinking fuel should pump through as engine is being cranked over ?? Thanks

Thanks you sure, as the electric pump model was 97 onwards, vacuum pump before that! fuel should pump with hose off and ignition on! if you need a replacement, these are good pumps, in speaking with the UK supplier, they have a range of motorcycle pumps as well! www.fuelflow.co.nz/FF_cms_03/eshop?page=shop.browse&category_id=28&TreeId=2pm me and I will pass on the UK suppliers email address

Yes I'm sure , prob been fitted later. it's definitely not pumping fuel with just ignition on or when turning over engine, although it does work when cleared of fuel and fresh air going through .
Thanks

What if the fuel isn't reaching the pump in the first place?
Where's your fuel tap when you try this?
On my 96 D6 there is a vacuum operated safety valve above the tap, if the engine isnt running then there isn't a vacuum to open the tap from the tank to the pump, so the pump wouldn't be receiving anything to pump on - so perhaps you need to have the tap set in the prime position.
Sometimes with mine if it doesn't get a little bit of throttle immediately after starting, it conks and won't start again unless I give it about 30 seconds on prime to let some fuel in.
Once it's running there is enough vacuum to hold the safety tap open, but cranking on the starter doesn't turn the motor fast enough to create the necessary suck.

The 600 I had was similarly awkward to start. I never did try the prime position but bet that was its problem. The fuel tap could also be full of gunk.
