Plus those common lodges don't offer the privacy I and my amigos require

The Shocarjen twin beds would be a little close together for my liking Not a fully fledged amigo until you've experienced 'closeness'

I haven't bought decided what bike I'm going on yet . nice to know someone is struggling with exactly the same problem as me ;D Get a bigger trailer and bring 2 ! (That's what I'm planning to do if I can persuade Carol to ride up again )

What's with the trailer thing, bikes not able to make the trip. It's just the softy Northerners, Jonny. I think the argument goes that it saves fuel, compared to riding two bikes up. Might just be about staying dry though .

Wind dosen't bother me, it sharpens the reactions. ;D

50% of the fun is riding to and from a meet, IMHO Agreed - my trip to the JR will involve criss-crossing the country, to Lincs (Trev) then over to Lancs (PopS) then onwards north, avoiding the motorways. Mind you, I take a couple of days over it, putting myself upon those fine forum members & taking-in much needed refreshment each evening along the way .

Normally I would agree, but I am constrained by time, so it's M6 then M74, hardly the most exciting riding roads, Exactly my reasoning. It's a very busy time of year for me, but I wouldn't want to miss the JR. If I could afford to take the scenic route and a couple more days, I'd happily ride up and back. Also saves having to "pack" - just chuck everything I might need in the back of the van. And finally, I might bring a choice of bikes - but I can't ride 2 at the same time so the trailer gives me flexibility.

I'm getting very excited about this.
Packing - always a difficult one.
I reckon to bring only a small, sensible amount of stuff.
I was thinking of packing my pyjamas, slippers, dressing gown, bath towel, smoking jacket (the burgundy velvet one), my portable writing desk, personal toilet seat, shower cap and foot spa all together in one pannier - so that I can keep them separate from my morning suit, evening suit, top hat, telescopic silver handled cane, spare monocles, safari jacket, deerstalker, galoshes, umbrella, folding picnic table and 4 chairs, in the other pannier.
That would leave the top box free for waterproofs, so long as I can find a secure mount on pillion for the wine cooler and the barbecue.
Or are we the ones who never wash, and vomit on our own trousers after we've bitten the heads of chickens?

I was going to send him on ahead, but the helicopter is in for a service that weekend, so I thought I'd rough it like the common people.
I presume the lodge people arrange that the maid will unpack and press my suit and cravat for me.
