Welcome Tivvydivvy.
According to the Haynes manual the blue/white wire is part of the starter circuit. It should go from the starter switch to the relay assembly then on to the starter relay.

Most people seem to use the live feed to the rear lights (under the seat). IIRC the light works by switching the earth so this is permanently live whenever the ignition is on making it ideal for a heated grips relay. Start at the rear (tail light) bulb and follow the wires from there. Someone who has a wiring diagram will be along to tell you the colours shortly

Hi, as I don't have access to a wiring diagram, can anyone please tell me what function this wire is used for please. Colour is blue/white and it looks like it heads off to the rear of the bike. I'm looking for a connection that is live when the ignition is switched on that I can use to trigger my heated grips relay. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pete ps Thought I'd attached a picture but it appears to be missing.
That sir is the wire that goes straight into the top of the starter solenoid as stated before.
Here is the wiring diagram i use, i know its not great quality on the computer but i have it saved on my I-Phone and its great quality on a small screen and is a real life saver when outside working on the bike, i can just quickly peak at it without having to run back inside.
I believe the Blue and Red wire on the connector just further up the tail from your blue and white wire is the positive for the tail light, Yellow is Brake and Black is Negative and as long as you have the lights on that will be live.
