I recently bought a Diversion 600 '94. Been riding it for 3 months now and clocked over 2000 miles on it without a problem. last week the starter motor went on it, which was not a huge deal as there is a breakers just down the road with good prices! Yesterday the dreaded petrol leak started. Not being mechanically minded, i haven't given the bike a thorough look, but after taking the tank off, it seems its been patched up with fibreglass on the bottom and it is leaking. I was wondering if any other models would be the same size tank as the diversion 600? there is a few out there, but there is a diversion 900 tank same colour as my bike going for a decent price, but i have a feeling it's a longer tank any advice for a novice would be great cheers!

You're right, the D9 tank is bigger all round. And to be honest I think it's unlikely that any other tank would fit without a degree of modification.
I should start by posting a "Wanted" ad on here. And keep an eye on the 'Bay of course.
There are several repair products available - check out one of the restoration mags like Old Bike Mart.
Tanks can be mended by welding, if the corrosion isn't too bad. But it needs to be done by someone who knows what they're doing, and can steam out all the petrol vapour first to avoid the big bang. And it would probably cost more than a reasonable secondhand tank.

The 900 tank wont fit the 600. As Bob says tanks can be repaired but when rust is the issue (and its not a classic bike) its hardly worth doing.
I had a Norton tank repaired. It was first chemical dipped to clean off paint and rust (and petrol). The clean metal was perfect for the brazed repairs and showed up all areas that needed work.

Ok great cheers! well its not rusted, the inside is in great condition, but its obviously leaked before, as someone has used a fibreglass tape to patch it before selling it to an idiot (me).
ill keep an eye on ebay see what i can get!

I have used Por15 with very good results www.frost.co.uk/automotive-tanks-products/por15-motorcycle-fuel-tank-repair-kit.html It's a bit pricey at £40 and you need to stick to the instructions closely, but it worked well on my badly corroded tank. I patched up several holes that were a few mm in size with great success. It takes time and great care to do the job properly - and don't drop the tank during the numerous sloshing and rinsing stages.

Where abouts are you Paul? I have a serviceable tank off a 600, it has a small dent near the filler (after some scrote tried to screwdriver the cap off ). It's red coloured.

My 600 had a came with a small weep at the back of the tank (about top of thigh level, without being rude ). I tried SintoFer, an epoxy metal filler, but it didn't stick so a few months later the paint began to blow. I fixed it with one of those plasticine type fillers in stick form you mix in your fingers. After it hardened it rubbed down and painted over, with no problem since. That'll be 3 1/2 years ago. Worth a try before splashing out a lot more dough.
