Dylan
Put your location in your profile. You might find that some kind soul with spanners says "hey you're near me, I'll help"
You might not. But if you don't put your location up, you certainly won't.

There is adjustment on the brake switch. It's held in place by plastic lock nuts. Quote from Haynes: "If adjustment is necessary hold the switch and turn the adjusting nut on the switch body until the brake light is activated when required." If you could turn it off before by lifting the pedal then it should only be an adjustment problem. There is also adjustment on the brake pedal.

You haven't changed the bulb recently have you?

It could also be the front brake switch, but the wrong bulb can do it.
As Diversion 600s are getting elderly its wise to get a cheap electrical test meter. You can then (fairly) easily check the switches are doing their job without pulling the bike apart.
The rear brake switch sprung wire should be slightly loose with the spring extending a little when the pedal is pressed.
The front switch is built into the master cylinder block. Unplug the switch cable and use the test meter to check if switch contacts are opening and closing.

Dylan explains in his OP that he's shortened the spring, so I'm pretty sure he's talking about the rear brake light switch, not the front. (Replacement front brake light switches are also available on Ebay & elsewhere, but that won't help this issue.) ...... waits for silly comments about front brake light switches again, after the last time I mentioned front brake light switches .

Just trying to be concise. The OP did say his brake light is on all the time so both brakes switches should be checked. But as TJ points out it could also be that the rear bulb had been put in wrong (or is the wrong type) causing the brake filament to contact the rear light contacts. Easy job first switch the lights on and off and see if the rear light goes out. Then disconnect each brake light switch and see which one puts the light out. (simply pull the switch connector plug). If still no joy take off the rear light lens and make sure the bulb is correct and is sitting properly in its holder. Be careful putting the lens back, the O-ring seal is a pain to get seated properly.

I hope you're taking the P*** You do realise the brake light is not operated solely by the rear brake. And The fridge light does actually go off if you close the fridge, assuming the switch is OK and some tight Lincs dweller hasn't removed the bulb to save money. ;D
