I have been searching the net but not found any decent results so i thought i would register here and ask .
I am getting my step sons divvy ready for a mot and done the clutch/brakes/wheel bearings but i have now come to do the exhaust and on looking at it its gonna be a royal pain . its blowing badly from the link pipe but the silencers seem decent condition .
Now the issue i have or might have is the header bolts are allen keys and it would seem that the frame is in the way . Is there an easy fix to remove them ? i cant seem me getting a normal allen key in there . I doubt a socket will fit .. How do i get them undone ?
Regards

Some of 'em are fine to get at with a regular key. Some less so. If you have one of these: ..... you can put a 10mm spanner on it from the side, getting past the frame tubes.

Usual warning to soak in PlusGas for a few days before attempting to remove them. Then a bit of thermal or mechanical shock if they don't immmediately yield.

The question of fitting an allan key in may not matter if they are anything like mine were, corroded through time the hex shape had turned into a circle and the allan key just turned in it for some of them,I ended up getting mine off with mole grips from the side, but could only turn them a little bit at a time some people suggest welding a nut on top of them, and using a spanner to undo them.My silencers seemed ok until I tried separating them from the downpipes,at which point they tore at the ends, sometimes easier just to fit a new exhaust, but not cheap.

I did my 900 (same type of exhaust nuts) some time ago. Some were absolutely solid even with Plus Gas etc. I disconnected the battery, spark box and alternator and protected the frame and engine with (damp) corrugated card. Then ran some arc weld onto the rims of the stuck nuts until the metal glowed red. These nuts then simply unscrewed with a normal allen key.
Its a bit of a faff doing the preparation as arc welding can wreck electonics and sparks damage paint but SO MUCH better than snapping an exhaust stud. You dont even need to be able to weld - its all about getting concentrated heat into to the nut/bolt.
I replaced the lot with stainless dome nuts which always come off ok and have not (yet) fallen off).
If you don't have a welder get a garage to do it. Either way, it's 100% better than snapped exhaust studs.
