I said in the winter I would put together a run for this summer. Due to the weather, my laziness and work commitments It hasn't happened. However I rode most of the first days route I have in mind today and can get this in the calander for next year as well as get a mini run going in a month or so to test the route.
I don't reckon I am experienced enough or quick enough to lead a run. If there is a kind soul out there who would be happy to lead this out I would be happy to back mark and will get the rest organised?

You don't need to be quick just make sure you stay on . Seriously, you gain experience by doing something yourself. Go for it, you'll be reet . Edit, sorry not a lot of help. Aim for a run of about 100 - 130 miles. Break in morning run, lunch stop and a break in the afternoon bimble.

It's True, there no minimum speed on a run it's all about having some fun with some like minded people and above all getting round safely, don't worry about taking a wrong turn... I myself lead half the runsters out of the starting place carpark the wrong way ! way to go if i can't even get the first turn right.... it all turned out ok in the end...
Like TJ said as long as theres some where to stop for a fag and a Pee, cups of tea/coffee also welcome, and somewhere for lunch ( even McDonalds will do ) then it'll be alright.
Regards Andy

I agree with Trev and Andy Even if you ride nice and sedately, you will still find yourself waiting for markers to put down, it's the way the marker system works. Saying that, when I organised Postcombe 2003 I did get someone else to lead, as I was incapable of going round a bend Well done for sticking your head above the parapet, we have been lacking in West Country runs since Devon 2004 Dave

I have a route and food coffee & smoke stops in hand in hand and what I consider a good mix of interesting, fast and challenging roads as well as some pretty scenery (havent worked a ford in yet) I will get it mapped out anyway, but would still be happier back marking that leading.

It is good to hear you are still planning to host a run. Debs & I would be up for a bimble around Somerset. It is good to get new locations mixed in with the established meets.
I'll pm you my mobile no if you want to have a chat about possible dates and also maybe answer any questions you have about organising and planning.

I organised my first run last year and like others who've done it, I can appreciate your anxiety. However, I'd also reassure you that what the others have already said is right - you don't need to be fast, just keeping to the limits is fine and usually results in the tail enders working quite hard to keep up - all part of the fun. Another tip is - if you don't publish a map of the run beforehand, no-one will know if you've gone wrong. Just keep going with confidence and make sure u-turns only occur at some point of interest / landmark so it looks like you meant to go there LOL. I quite fancy a trip to Somerset meself.

Your concern is fairly natural - my first run, there was three of us organising & we each took a turn leading a section to share the 'excitement' ;D. None of us need have worried though, & nor should you. Sounds a great area for a run - do it. If you remain convinced that you don't want to lead it, lead some of it & find a volunteer to lead another bit of it - you'll each get to lead & to back-mark . (You won't have any trouble getting a second back marker if you want one, from those who attend.)

You don't have to worry about keeping ahead as with the marker system the quicker riders will all ways get to mark the junctions & have their fun making their way to the front again a nice steady pace is whats wanted & as you will probably know the roads that should not be difficult. Going to quick often leads you into embarrassing situations Martins U turns Trevs hiding in ditches & me getting a bo!!ocking from Gman because I thought I had got far enough ahead to have a fag but he was quick on the country lanes I chose as well Just go for it lead out & if you are slow no worries I quite fancy a run in the west country. Try to get a list of places to stay/campsites etc. & a Saturday night in a pub goes down well & breakfast on the Sunday if these can be accommodated in the same place so much the better. BTW I am rather partial to a drop of cider so if you know of an inn that does food/camping/rooms & cider (real stuff not Strongbow) I might be persuaded to come Neil

I have something in mind If you ever find yourself in Bristol the cori tap is for you www.thecoronationtap.com/ it wont be on any run I put together as their exhibition breaks people too easily.

Go for it, I organised my first run only 3 weeks ago. It seemed to go ok, I lead for the first section and then another member took the lead. But the next ride out will be better organised from the experience Put me down for this ride Have a trial run this summer (September) ;D I will join you, sure a few others would attend

Don't worry about speed, or where you're going Me and Jools did a little run down through Devon and Cornwall a couple of years running, and loved it. No practice, and riding roads we'd never seen before was brilliant.

Sign up sheet now posted diversionclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clubrunsignups&action=display&thread=18532PM me and let me know numbers, and if you are eating lunch by Thursday so I can book at the pub and forewarn the coffee stops. I ran the full route today, and some bits I may or may not use depending on the weather and how tired people are. Total distance will run to 100-125 miles. the run should be moderately challenging as opposed to fast with a lot of B and unmarked roads. Start at the precinct Congresbury BS49 5JG leaving 10:00 (maybe) coffee stop at the stables tea room BS40 6HW Lunch 'Plume of Feathers' Rickford BS40 7AH 12:00(ish) Coffee Stop Cider Press Restaurant (Rich's cider farm)TA9 4RD Ice cream in W-S-M. (maybe) stop in Worle if anyone wants the M5 to head for home? I shall start by going to the local petrol station as the only fuel stop I have factored in is near the end of the run.
