What sort of range do you get on a full tank? When the reserve come in, how many miles do you have left before you are pushing your bike home? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Here, it's kilometres so mine will do 250 to reserve and I don't dare get anywhere near 300 afterwards. OK, that's 155 miles to reserve and after that get filled up ASAP! HTH

I usually get 180 to reserve.
At that rate, the reserve offers max 40 miles to empty.
I usually refill before hitting reserve - otherwise I end up going onto reserve on a downhill stretch. I live at the bottom of a long hill, and if I hit reserve on the hill, I end up stopping with empty carbs and it won't start next morning.

I Love these threads. Everyone comes on a brags about how far they got to the thimblefull. I once went 400miles after filling the tank on the D6, it was sitting in the back of the van though. ;D Fill it after 150 and you shouldn't have a problem. All bikes will vary slightly, if you want to know the range of your tank carry a can of petrol and let it run the bike to empty. You will have to do this several times to ensure you have definitive figures for all loads, weather and road conditions. Tyre inflation and wear, brake condition and bearing wear can also affect range. As does how enthusiastic you are with the throttle.

I filled up to the neck of the tank the weekend before the JR12 and went out for a run.....I covered 176 miles when an abrupt sputtering started .....at first I felt the sinking gut but quickly remembered that the bike needed filling occassionally.. ...I travelled about 20 miles on reserve and filled up again....similar result on the weekend of the JR12 ....but I would recommend filling before you require reserve as I remember years ago problems with cr4p in the carbs while running on low fuel

it also depends on how you ride it, i get anywhere between 135 to 165 miles before reserve, bizarrely doing a steady 75mph on the motorway uses more fuel per mile than having a jolly good time on the twisties going up and down the gears keeping the revs high to maintain responsiveness. Go figure.... I've once done 28 miles on reserve but usually just fill up at the next opportunity.

Flymo I find the opposite - my mpg is almost unvarying between long runs and short work commute and flinging it about a bit. Cold weather drops it a little.

Flymo shows how running at ideal revs is the most economical option. Those who want to fit a larger gearbox sprocket to a 600S - dont bother.
I used to allow 180 miles between fills (600S).
It ran dry after 130 miles riding from Cardiff to Derby in heavy snow. I never got out of third gear all the way and it didnt even glitch when it should have hit the reserve.

I normally do a mix of town and country, with some fast some slow and a little bit of flingin it about. The mix of these varies and sometimes between fill ups its all of one and none of another - and I get 56mpg regardless. Last weekend I did a motorway run - steady 70ish for about 60 miles each way - dry, not windy, with top and side boxes on. When I filled up I was so surprised how little it took that I broke out the calculator on my phone and did the figures and found that it had done about 68mpg on that run.

This probably won't help: Rack and boxes all came from Tracey who lives along the road, who was planning to change her D6 for a virago. It's nonfango stuff of an indeterminate age.

The best I've got before hitting reserve is 195 miles, that was mainly doing about 50-60mph commuting on motorways.
The worst is 135 miles, that was doing mainly 80-85mph with full panniers, tail pack and tent.
From my memory of the manual, the tank is 17 litres and reserve cuts in at 14 litres. If you count on doing say 10 miles per litre, the 3L reserve is good for about 30 miles at most. I start sweating at 20.

Triple cases knock at least 10% off my mpg and often make the 600 look like mobile luggage.
Givi wing rack or monorack fit the 600. Monorack is much less ugly, but top box only so would need to make your own pannier frames.
