Hi Midd, I've just secured my exhaust with two U clamps like they use on car exhausts, they dont look pretty but they'll last longer than even strong jubilee clips. They were only 60p each and are 32mm in diameter, hope this helps.

i noticed that where the two pipes merge into one pipe is rusting badly ,any ideas as to how to protect this .[it looks like an achilees heel to the system]the bike is my only transport and it needs to be ready to ride everyday. thanks for any solutions on this. The usual remedy for this is a beer can (you can use others but its not so much fun preparing). Cut the ends off and cut it down the length. Use this as a sleeve to hold a good wad of gungum (exhaust putty if you're posh) round the rusting union. The can is then held in place with jubilee clips. It's not pretty, but once you are sitting on the seat and facing forwards you can't even see it.

I used Renault Kangoo exhaust clamps on mine when I had it - they are about 3" wide, so you can whack a gert load of exhaust paste in , clamp it up and forget.

Not suggesting this as a solution, but, when i got my 02 plate, the 2 sections were basically just 'jammed' together with plenty of 'wadding' to seal, basically because the clamping part of the silencer section was completely missing. It wasn't until the collectors started imitating tea-bags that I noticed this (yes, they do seem to be the 'Achilles-heel' of the exhaust system). At that point I decided to replace the whole system with a Delkevic. Sounds and looks better, but not cheap. Just sayin, is all Rick
