Hi all, Looking for some help, I'm a new (nov last year) rider with a diversion 600 and think I have made a bit of a balls up.... As I sit and type this I am some distance from my bike and think I have inadvertently left the fuel tap on PRIME for the past week . ... Can anyone give some advice on the steps to take before starting to avoid destroying the engine. So far I have read up online and worked out I need to - check/replace the oil
- remove the plugs and check for fuel in the chamber
- let the chambers breathe
- dry the air filter
- Oh and set the tap back to normal
Anything anyone can suggest minus the newbie bashing will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

It'll be fine, just crank it up and ride it * *if anything it'll help it start. Early versions were a bngger to start without being on prime for a while. Just remember to turn the tap back to run position when you set off.

If the carbs' float valve leak, they will overflow down the vent pipe. They wont dribble fuel into the engine.

Ahhh see google is not always good.... Read horror stories of hydrostatic lock etc... But looking at the bike it seems the design would prevent that.
Thanks for all the help guys, like I said... A very new rider, first bike etc... Didn't want to look as stupid as I did dropping it the petrol station and bugger the engine....

mmm . . . I, too, was told by someone that if you left it on prime for more than a few minutes it would run fuel straight into the bores and thence to the crankcase. But after staring at it for a while I reckoned that was not true.
(Dry the air filter? hells bells - are people suggesting that the air filter will be soaked with fuel? Given that there is a drain in the air box, by the time neat fuel was soaking the air filter wouldn't your garage have to be thigh deep in petrol - which I guess you would have noticed - although I do see that you say you are writing "some distance from the bike" - so perhaps it is indeed surrounded by so much petrol that you would need to swim to it.)
On a couple of occasions when I have left it on prime for overlong it has never been a problem.

Yep that is everything I had read now know to be a load of old cods wallop ... I was some distance from my biker as I was on holiday, on my return this morning, I tentatively opened the garage door..... No smell of fuel, No puddles, looking good I thought
Having taken the advice above on board I decided... What the hell and , with my eyes closed just in case, I fired the old girl up.... No problems, if anything started a damn site better than normal as was pointed out in the first reply, only thing is she sounds a little rough...probably my imiganitation.

Sorry, you did point that out and I have updated the post to reflect it accordingly, still think it sounds rough in the ON position though.... I did switch it over before starting up, otherwise I'd forget again...
