Hi all, I've got a 1998 Divvy 600s with 58,000 on the clock. Engine is well worn and rattles and taps like mad. I've been looking at replacement engines, but have a question for someone knowledgeable. If I buy an engine that does not run an oil cooler, is there a way of fitting an oil cooler to it (as mine has an oil cooler as standard)?
Thanks Peter

I think the answer is "No". The casings won't have the required apertures ( or oil-ways within) to plumb-in the cooler lines.

I doubt an oil cooler is needed for the UK, the only exception would be living in London and having a sustained heat wave, maybe

The oil cooler is too small to be any real help as I found out on a hot summers day traffic jam with no space to filter through. I had to stop and wait for the jam to move on. A bigger cooler would help. But - (1) Space is limited under the headstock the front wheel needs space on full bump. (2) A big cooler would need a thermostat to avoid over cooling the oil so not cheap to do. I believe the oil cooler is connected to a different oil filter housing so it might just swap from one engine to the other.

I certainly wouldn't worry about fitting the cooler. They run perfectly well without, and it's one less thing to go wrong. I can't remember whether the oil cooler take-offs are on a sandwitch plate or built in to the crank case - if it's a sandwich plate / filter housing, then it's a simple swap.

But you need a shorter bolt to fasten the filter housing after you've discarded the plate.

That's cool , then. He'll be fitting the cooler to one without, so will have the plate and bolt
