Hi, Hopefully a nice easy question I passed my CBT (on an MT-3 but did a bit on the Divi also) and am looking for a bike. I was looking for a newish Divi but think I will get a bit of time on a older bike before trading up to something shiney. I am currently looking at ads for a couple of Divi's (both 98 plates) and will be going to take a look in a couple of weeks. Anyone know if the 98 is carb or injection and whether there is anything particular I should look out for on a Divi of that age. Any help appreciated!

Old 600s are carb, and new ones are injection so I'd imagine the 98 you're looking at would be injection. The new ones look a bit like a modern Fazer (and I think the engine is similar too) but the old ones look like a jelly mould in comparison.

Too look out for?...exhaust collector/general condition of exhaust..standard is 4 into 2, clutch can be a bit noisy...condition of oil cooler rad and pipe work...other than that just the general things to look for on any bike. The 600 is pretty bomb proof and should stand you in good stead for a first bike. Good luck with your search. Ps, might be an idea to post your location, may be a member close to assist.

Thanks folks ... just realised my dislexia moment in the original thread - should be passed DAS rather than CBT!
Have mainly had an amateur hack at cars so bikes a little new to me (done a little on a YBR125) but willing to roll up the sleeves. Last dealings I had with carbs was on a Sierra many moons ago )
Will see if I can have a look at bikes tomorrow. Will also sort out my profile etc!

The 600 has stainless header pipes but ordinary steel collectors and cans. The collector's rot first but can be replaced in stainless at reasonable cost if you shop around at pipe specialists. The clutch operating shaft often suffers from dry bearings and wear but it's easy to fix. All the other stuff is normal bike maintenance. They are solid bikes that go on way longer than their contemporarys.
