Hi all New here so Sorry if this is posted in wrong area I recently swapped my cg125 donor Bike for an XJ600N However in the process of transferring the bike from previous owners van to my garden, we urr (que idiot moment) managed to lose the keys . . . . Cracked off the top yoke and took ignition down to a locksmith to get a key cut for £5 (nice?) Started working on it by; Got a motad/nexus 4-1 exhaust system for what I hope was a bargain at £80 Fitted the oil cooler Getting an R1 blue spot rear calliper which I have heard bolts straight on, local breakers has one for £20 so less than an XJ calliper on eBay. However what I thought was the steering lock turnt out to be parking lights... I later discovered it is on the left of the frame but it looks like it takes a smaller key than the ignition so was wondering if there is a way to remove the lock barrel for the steering lock to get one cut, yes I know a steering lock offers little resistance to a determined scumbag but it's still another lock and I'd like it to work lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi fsjake1, welcome. I've a 600N and never had that key! I have a bike chain/lock which I keep under the seat and a disc lock which fits either front or back (back is better btw). Both are visible deterrents but not sufficient against the determined scumbags as you say. You may be able to trace the relevant key back through the frame no. and Mr Yamaha? If it's that easy to dismantle the lock barrel then it ain't no good anyway, just another annoyance to the thief though. Good luck and enjoy the bike. ;D

Lock is sh1te anyway, iirc it's only a flat bladed key, similar to Lucas tractor keys, and can be easily turned even by a limp wristed Wantage type with a manky screwdriver ! Oh, welcome btw

Dont waste your time with the standard steering lock. Any tealeaf worth his salt will soon smash that off and the dopes that can't will leave you with jammed steering. Use a proper chain lock.
