The thread about riding at night got my juices flowing. I need to get better a headlight sorted.
1996 XJ600S
In the existing headlight unit the reflector is loose inside the unit - so just adding a brighter bulb doesn't do all I need.
Okay - there are plenty of second hand units on ebay, but I've had a couple of ideas wandering round in my head.
1: Wondering whether to add a couple of spots. Possibly one to augment dip and then both to augment main beam.
Some people have mentioned mounting spots under the front of the fairing. I was wondering about trying a couple of 3" spots, mounted to the fairing frame through those silly side vents, so that the body of the lamp sits smewhat into the shape of the vents. They'd have to be easy to remove, because they'd have to come off any time it is necessary to remove the fairing.
2: Wondering whether to investigate removing the existing headlight and replacing with a twin headlight unit. I have plentiful supplies of bits of junk and so I'm confident that I have the technology to make a suitable mount, and make good into the front of the fairing.
Anyone else tried this? Any suggestions or recommendations?
thanks in advance.

Flymo appears more than happy with his HID conversion. It doesn't dazzle traffic, either - having had him in my mirrors many a time (one day he'll get past, bless him ).
