G'day folks. Got a couple of issues I was hoping you may be able to help with.. OK, 1st off my ride is a 98 600N Divvy, love it, but after an very wet couple of days riding it started acting up a bit. It's a pig to start now, really need to crank it over lots even in the prime position to get it started. I think there must be a clue in the fact that it was after some serious wet weather riding that this has happened.. 2nd, the downpipes have been replaced and the exhaust clamp (1 is missing) to the silencers need replacing, what is the correct size. There is a 47-51mm there at the moment.. and last of all while looking at the clamp i have found a wire hanging down that seems to have a broken connector on the end. Where does this go please? Thanking you knowledgeable folks already

Hi Rascal, welcome to the club.
Can't help with the exhaust clamp size. But that hanging wire? Can you take a pic & post it here so we can see?
Reluctant starting, if it's down to the rain: Could be either electrical (a coil or something else shorting?) or fuel (water contamination). Might even be that hanging wire if we could see what it was.
Prob my first check would be to lift off the tank & give the coils & HT leads a good squirt of WD40 or GT85 / whatever you have. If starting improves, although the squirting probably won't be a long-term fix, it would hint that the issue is electrical shorting or coil breakdown/splitting. If no change: Worth draining the carb float bowls & draining the tank, in pursuit of water.

Thanks for the speedy reply M40man.. I'll go try and get a piccy of that offending wire for you before in gets dark up here in Scotland, but it comes down in between the exhausts just where they clamp to the silencers. I'll get the bike back in the barn tonight and get the tank off and have a closer look armed with my WD40..

If that hanging wire is off the side stand switch it might never start

Cheers. The bike starts, it's just a pig.. Right i've changed the plugs, fitted the iridium ones. I have also fixed the exhaust clamps, they are 43-47mm size on this bike. That has made a huge difference to the starting, but it's still not quite right. Oh, and that wire is still hanging, I dont think its the side stand one. I've got a Manual ordered, that stop me bothering you guys too much!

The manual has a wiring diagram in it so that should help you figure out what the wire is and where it should be. Have you checked it's not live? Put a photo of it up and maybe try and trace where the wire goes and you never know someone may be able to give you a few pointers on here in the meantime.
