Why my 600s hates starting after being left for 4 or more days? starts on the button everyday 1st time when in use but if I leave it more than 3 days its a pig to start, took about 8 go's on the starter Monday after being left in the garage since Thursday. I'm baffled, new battery, plugs etc. Its a year 1994, any suggestions appreciated.

My 1992 D6 (going back a while since I had that one!) was similar. I put it down to the fact that it was the pre electric fuel pump version. So when left for a few days I suppose the petrol in the system either evaporates or is allowed to flow back to the tank? It then takes a while for the mechanical fuel pump to get the petrol back to the combustion chamber. Maybe. OK I don't have a clue really, but that was my guess!

Yeah get an electric fuel pump on.
If I left my 1995 for a few days, it would take up to 3 weeks constant cranking to get the fuel back in. Now with electric fuel pump, it will start almost on the button. There's an 'how to' article on here if you need it, you'll just have to find it.

Mine does this too, if left for a while. I think the "prime" position on the tap only primes the pump, which is weak, as you know! I have a spare battery that I use, or If I remember, start it every couple of days. Or fit an electric pump...

Cheers guys. had a look for the thread with how to fit an electric pump but not found it yet, will look again tomorrow. Good luck. The search facility on this site is about as much use as.... the fuel pump on a 1994 Divvy 600!

you don't need an electric pump....... just put the fuel tap to prime as soon as you get near the bike... get kitted up, out of garage etc, should start fine, just remember to return fuel tap to run... My 600s was always stood between ride outs, quite often all week, and had the same problem, until I adopted the above, then all was fine... Even now on my fazer, with electric pump, if left all week, if i turn the key the pump goes mad, but it still is a pig to start, unless , turn key allow carbs to fill, twist throttle, and leave while i get kitted out and bike out of garage, then it will start on first turn over..and run fine. ;D try it!

I've got an idea for a mod to make priming the carbs easier. Basically you have a tube that splits off from the one coming out of the tank and joins into the tube going into the carbs, bypassing the pump. It would need a little tap on it of course.
I've had the tank off before now and rearranged the tubes temporarily to prime the carbs on more than one occasion when I couldn't get it started by the normal method!
