hi folks
time to sit down and relax
I thought the bike wasn't pulling well
could it be carbs - tried silkolene pro fuel additive as used on guzzi etc to stop carb icing. better but not good.
fixed hole in nexus silencer - they all do that! with exhust wrap and jubilee clip.
so last night it was time to get the carbs off and rocker cover(do they still call it that)
not havign 'the' tool or wanting to pay fowlers £34 for one.
I and trusted freind decided to take of cams - before first cable tieing cam cahin to sprockets - still jumped around though.
removing cam chain tensioner was a pain as was re settign it
bike has done 37k 1992 miles and only to find 3 shims out was remarakble.
once cams are out it was easy to swop them over for new ones & £3 each from local dealer - wemoto wanted £8!
apart from mislaying the bushes for the cam covers - all going ok.
we relaised exhaust cam was out by one tooth , so dilegently allowed chain to recover is original position.
re fitting and resttign cam chain tensioner was a stand on head job and lots of swearing, but we got ther ein the end.
sat lunch by now.
engine turned over by hand and by starter - no plugs to check free running. plugs in cover back on and it sounded sweet - but oil was not just seeping out from front of rocker cover.
so pateince and all off again , re cleaned and sealed with instant gasket - sticking the gasket onto cover and hoping to re istall without it dropping of- al torqued and a quick ride to tesco for tea and yes it goes as should now - lots of pateince - tools used /improvised.
not bad for a pair of expereinced bikers/fettlers - be wary it can be done but watch out for snags along the way.
I really like the pull of the bike now - not quite klike guzzi 1100 sport or buell12x - but as a commuter to college (yes 50 yea rold goes back to college) but bought it for £270 from ebay - changed forks - brakes bled - banjo bleed bolts and exhaust temp fixed.
next to stop the rattles - though even my fj1200 screen rattled.
thanks for reading.
now time for a beer and what to ride tomorrow divvy or buell to boxhill - who knows....
