This might seem like a dumb and/or weird question but I feel uneasy with any bike that is electric start only. I need to have a backup in case my battery fails. So can this be done?

Kick starts were left on bikes with electric start in the days when electric start was still considered unreliable
In the 20 years I have been riding the only 2 wheeled vehicle I have owned with a kick start was the 50cc scooter I bought for my son to ride, I have never had a problem with electric start being an unreliable long term issue.
Charging systems and reliability of electric starts have pretty well made kick starts unneccesary now, but if you do feel anxious find somewhere to stow a set of jump leads, then if you do break down and cannot get your bike to start again you can jump start it off another vehicle rather than bump start it (I don't like bump starting my bike either, alone I'm asking to end up in a heap on the floor).
If you are regularly suffering with starting problems then its time to take a good look for the cause.

I have fitted an anderson style connector under the tail piece of my 600. I can connect jump leads, battery jump pack or battery charger without removing seat to access batteries. The connectors are High current and are available from Durite. You need 1 connector for bike, and 1 connector for each device you own. www.durite.co.uk/pdf/2011/4/04.5_Cable_and_Wiring-High_current_connectors.pdfIf you want I can send you pics

I reckon the best way forward is to use a battery conditioning charger have a plug in an accesable position so when you park up you just plug it in then change it for a good quality battery avery two to three years. I dont actualy bother to do that to my divvi as i ride it often but my Royal star is pluged on all winter. the battery on my Divvi is about three years old now & going strong. Jona

I've kicked my Divvy when it wouldn't start, and had to spend 1.5 hours on the tube in full leathers as a result - fecker!

Well this has put paid to using an xj lump in my project as I dont even want a battery on it just using mag coil ignition Its also put paid to the auto advance, throttle position retard and contactless ignition timing. Most bikes since 1990 have had all or most of those. If you can find one to fit you could try an air starter.
