Had problem with dirty carbs (methinks) and have used lotsa Redex wonderstuff. On m/way one day, fuel was low and I eventually had to pull aside (lucky was a quiet day). I prodded starter and got moving about 20 - 30 feet. Died. Same again and sometimes with longer feet-age Didn't seem to like choke! Eventually got to a garage about half mile away and filled up. Took a while to get going again with stop n start stuff but got my 5 mile distance eventually. Next day I got back home my 25 miles ok. However, now it goes through all the starting motions but no life. Checked fuel pump and fuel pumped into an empty bottle ok. Checked spark plug against engine and no spark! Have I burned out the coils with all the stopping and starting? Has the cdi unit decided to stop? Where do I go from here? Please help once again.

Well I've been using the tin 4 wheeled box past cuppla weeks as bike still not sparking. Fuses ok. Rechecked individual sparking from all 4 plugs - no luck. Removed both coils tonight - cleaned up contacts and measured resistances - all seems ok but the Hayneses manual pic not very clear about checking Primary coils - I just tested similar style to Secondary coils - both reading exactly 2 ohms. Not sure if that was right but next stage for the pick up coil check - Mr Haynes says to follow the harness ... see illustration - what illustration? However, if anyone can still give me a nudge - please nudge. Ta.

all i can suggest is go over every connection you can find and give each wire a little tug, especially if theres any green stuff on them.

Thanks bb - that is probably my best option actually. When I was checking the coils, I thought my luck was in as the contacts were grubby. All cleaned but no luck, but I do feel there is a poor contact somewhere as she was a starter when I checked new plugs I bought - but then out of curiosity I rechecked the old plugs and she fired on all cylinders! I was so full of glee and megahappiness - like this ;D . BUT, next day - nowt - like this . So ta for your suggestion and I'll give her the once over at the next dry spell.

just found another possible bad connection. as well as the dreaded blue wire syndrome on the right side relay, i have another problem with the bike cutting out completely. the offending plug is directly underneath the airbox, where the loom is tied to the frame on the right hand side. i can see a lot of green crud but will have to remove everything to get at it. just a thought.

That happened to me last time when no electric stuff flowed at all. The connecting wires were basically rotted so I cut n pasted new wires and problem solved. However, gonna check all other connector bits.
