I have two problems on a 98 600 Divvy, First and most annoying is after a few uses of the back break it starts squeaking under braking and if I stop the disc is very hot where the front ones are slightly warm, could this be down to worn brake pads or is it normal?
Also I change the front brake lever (for a OEM one) as it was broke, since then I have noticed the brake light does not come on when I pull the front brake any ideas why and how to solve it?
Thanks Dean

Rear brake - wants stripping, cleaning, and new seals. I got pattern seals from Bike Business in Portsmouth and they fit and worked well. Kyoto pads are good enough and cheap, also sold at Bike Business in Portsmouth (they do mail order and eBay too).
Front brake switch is under the lever, it's just a physical microswitch. Either the switch got damaged in the crash, or there is something wrong about the new lever's shape which means it doesn't click the switch properly. Switch could also just be dirty inside. You can open up the switch and clean the insides with WD 40 and some rag, but be careful as there is a tiny little spring in there, also known as a "pingfukkit". Investigate and come back to us.

Thanks Dean Did it work before? Did you adjust the switch when you replaced the lever? - (schoolboy error if not) Check the switch. Just pull the front brake lever with the engine off and in a nice quiet place - you should hear the click if the switch is working. If still no light then check the bulb. If switch engaging correctly and bulb ok, then check power to the switch, power from the switch, power to the bulb, return from the bulb. If everything on this list is ok, then patent it.

Not normally associated with worn pads. A little copper grease on the rear of the pads helps. Or EBC brake pads usually come complete with anti-squeal pads on their backs, unlike most others. Also I change the front brake lever (for a OEM one) as it was broke, since then I have noticed the brake light does not come on when I pull the front brake any ideas why and how to solve it? I've had this with a non-OEM replacement. It was poorly manufactured & the little 'nub' which pressed on the brake light switch wasn't big enough / quite right. I built it up with a bit of epoxy resin. Not had it with proper OEM replacements though . Have a real close look at the old & the new next to each other, see if you have a similar issue.

.... should add. If the rear disc is exceptionally hot then it points to a bit of dragging. Deal with it as per Amorti's post. But it could also be that you use the back quite a bit, especially as a precursor to parking up? If so, it will naturally be warm then. Spit on it (splash a little water on it if you're posh )- if your gob sizzles away, chances are it's dragging a bit. .... & check how much you have left on the pads anyway!

It only squeaks when I apply pressure to the back and as for the bulb it must be ok as it lights with the back (which may explain the hot brake since I tend to use that more than the front) as for the other suggestions I will have a gander tomorrow as the bike is back in the garage and I can't be bothered to walk round to it

Haha front brake light was due to the switch being disconnected for some bizarre reason so plugged back in and works Still not sure on the back brake though as the sound is more of a metal on metal squeak than anything I can think of, so will put new pads on (any recommendations on what make and type to get?) and see if that solves it if not then will strip them/
