Need help folks - I had sorned the bike (98 600) and gave it a check after ignoring her for 6 weeks. She started with no problems whatsoever. However, desorned the following week and no power going anywhere - no lights, nowt. Have just checked for the 'blue wire' syndrome, but a pretty clean connector there. Is it an ignition barrel renewal or summat else

Sounds like you need to check where power's getting to, working from the battery outwards. That way you should find where the problem lies.

Any chance you left the parking light on when you were playing last time? Otherwise battery, main fues, ignition switch in that order. If it's the main fuse, then you also have to figure out why it's blown. Meeces? it's the season for it.

Ta for replies so far - fuses all intact and I don't recall leaving parking light on, or anything else on. I've borrowed a lekky meter so I'll have a rummage about and check for spaces. The battery is surely ok if I hadn't started it until after a 6 week lay off? Anyway, time for a rummage.

The battery was obviously OK when it started the bike up, but if you didn't charge it up after that (or take it for a really long run - it can take several hours running to fully charge a battery) it may have ended up with too little juice in it to do the job a week later.
Having said that, it sounds as though your problems are probably elsewhere, so a step-by-step look-see with a meter is the way to go.
But it's always best to keep your battery topped-up as much as possible to maximise its life. Lidl sometimes do plug-in (phone charger style) trickle chargers for a few quid that are very effective, though they aren't intended for leaving permanently connected like an Optimate.

Thank you stooby, amorti and bobh and soz for delay in getting back to you. I didn't even get to use the lekky meter, apart from checking that the battery was ok. I lifted all outta the way and decided to follow wires from ignition barrel as that was where I suspected trouble from, got to the connector blocks and lo and behold, ta daaaa, the live wire just came outta the connector, and the others were pretty corroded too. So spent about two hours, baring wires and soldering and fitting on new contacts and eventually 'bingo' or 'karma' or woteva. Spose this was just a bitta luck this find. However, job did. This also led to a new job as I discovered my front caliper pistons had seized. So waiting on new seals and new brake pads and I will be a jolly spiffing person soon. MOT due Sat. All should be ok. Cheers the noo!
