Since I can't edit Rogers threads I'll post here. These were Roger's intended routes. Meet up in the Bar of the Waverly Hotel Friday night 7:30/8 ?. thewaverleyhotelcallander.co.uk/Runs meet in the Callander meadows car park, across the road from the Dreadnought Hotel ? Big White Hotel. Car park entrance on the right if you're coming in from the North (Lenny estate end) Saturday route Crossing the A9 at Dunkeld can be a bit hairy but we're all big boys and girls. I avoided that junction JR13 by heading up to Aberfeldy and doing a few miles of A9 before leaving Trev standing marking the junction for hours. I checked on Saturday, he's not still there. Lunch stop in Kirriemuir. I suggest a regroup in Dunkeld in case anyone is having trouble crossing the A9. There's a fair bit of A9 Dualler from Perth to Callander on this route. Sunday Route We'll pass the Green Welly or you can lunch in Aberfeldy, I tried the café at Dewars distillery on Saturday, very nice but they only do Panninis etc and as you'd expect not the cheapest. £2.50 for a coffee if you're at all interested in Whisky it's a nice stop. www.visitscotland.com/info/see-do/dewars-aberfeldy-distillery-p421491I might not be fit to accompany the runs, struggling a bit at the moment. It'll be an on the day decision for me.

I wouldn't mind at least one of us knowing where we're going, even if it's only me & I'm not leading . .... or hi-res copies you could email to me, so I can map them in Tyre for my Tomtom .

I've copied them into Tyre and saved as Garmin .gpx files which seems to have worked except that it doesn't follow the roads ! It shows straight lines between waypoints - go figure ! I've had this in the past and it SEEMS to work on the actual SatNav but I don't get verbal instructions so have to look at the map which can be a pain Fortunately there are very few roads to choose from in that part of Scotland so it SHOULD be fairly hard to get lost.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong ? Or has anyone managed to convert the .itn files to Garmin format AND get a full route with verbal instructions ?
PS - Dunc - did you happen to notice if there's any petrol stations on the route(s) or in Callandar ? (One of the routes is given as 134 miles which gives me 4 miles running on fresh air unless I ride REAL slow)

There is a Petrol station at the South end of Callander. There is one at Lix Toll (fairly expensive) just before Killin. There's one in Aberfeldy. There is one in Couper Angus but it's slightly off the route, in the village and there's a BP in Kirriemuir. I'm fairly sure it shouldn't be a problem.

I prefer to just occasionally glance down as I find the sound distracting, bit like listening to music. On the other concern you have: Ride slowly .

I find looking down distracting, Satnav should be banned. It's bad enough getting nagged in the car without the same on the bike, and then switching on satnav too takesit over the top.

This weekend I'll create the routes using Basecamp and I can send them over to any Garmin users if you want them.

Hi Guys, I don't think I will be staying overnight but plan to get down for at least one of the runs.
Do we have a planned time for leaving Callander on the Sat and Sun morning ?
Cheers

As no-one appears to be "in charge" per se, I'd venture to suggest that we might follow custom and practice by meeting from 10:00 with the intention of leaving at 10:30.
No doubt if anyone objects violently to this plan we can make other arrangements

For those who've not been to Callander before (like me) there's an Esso petrol station on the main road:
DREADNOUGHT MALTHURST S/STN, STIRLING ROAD, FK17 8LE CALLANDER Open: Mon - Sat 06:00 - 22:00, Sun 07:00 - 22:00
Is it worth using this as a meeting/starting point? - Sorry Bev, just re-read your original post, starting point already sorted.
As suggested by Roger 10am for a 10:30 start?

Any idea where your first stop on Sunday is going to be? I'd like to say hello to you all. Unfortunately the big bike is still in need of sea trials road testing after radiator change, so I could roll up on the wee yin but a 4.5 litre tank rules out joining in the run.

..... Lunch stop in Kirriemuir. ..... Unfortunately I'll be in Dundee beating up CBT'ers working Saturday, so won't be at home in Kirrie to abuse you lot as you come through. For lunch, either a sit-down fry-up in Visocchi's in the town square, full pub grub in the Thrums Hotel or grab a bacon roll from Kitty's Kitchen and sit under Peter Pan's statue being molested by pigeons and junkies. Have a good run, enjoy God's own biking country and take plenty pics. Word of warning - Angus Council have today resurfaced the road out of Kirrie heading towards Glamis, for the first mile or so it's the ever popular loose chippings so watch out!

A stop in Balloch would probably be suitable. I'd suggest Balloch road where the Loch cruises go from. Though it's obviously up to you where you meet.
I don't think I'll be riding this weekend. I'll probably pop into Callander tonight for a non alcoholic refreshment.

Got home about 4:30 after a great day catching up with old faces and some new ones :-)
Gordy also appeared on the 'wee bike' and left us all standing lol.
Have a safe run home everyone, looking forward to try and get to a few more next year.
