Have had this problem for a while, wondered if anyone has a solution? There is a regular knocking through the alternator area (can feel the knocking through the hand placed on the cover) when the engine is running and the bike's stationary (not sure if it happens on the move as can't hear it . The knocking goes something like this (rrr is normal engine tickover noise): rrr rrr rrr rrr knock knock rrr rrr knock rrr rrr rrr rrr rrr knock knock I've removed the alternator and the bearings rotate freely, no play is present and it outputs a good charge. All downpipes are hot and the carbs were balanced three weeks ago. Any suggestions?

Alternator chains get noisy after a while and rattle at low revs mainly no tensioner on the Diversion just guides on one side.

Chris, I put the rumbling down to a chain rattle from somewhere within the engine, thanks for the confirmation. As the rumbling's been present since I've owned the bike, hopefully the engine's not going to self destruct! The bike's a D9, which doesn't have a record of clutch rattle
