Afternoon all,
I've been having issues with my front brake for a short while, with it sometimes feeling solid at the lever but no real pressure applied to the pads. Other times it is perfect, and it varies constantly during a ride. Scary stuff! I had tried bleeding numerous times to ensure it wasn't an airlock or something, it felt like the master cylinder piston was intermittently catching, I presumed down to some corrosion inside the cylinder.
So i stripped it down this morning and found the pin at the end of the piston was no longer attached to the piston itself! It must have been working sometimes out of pure luck. Scary scary scary.
Anyway so I need to source a new master cylinder, and haven't found a rebuild kit so I guess my only option is a second hand one or an alternative off another bike.
I am aware of the blue spot setup and am considering it but partly because it comes in around £100 for calipers and master cylinder, And partly because I already have braided lines and have recently fitted new brake pads to the bike I a bit reluctant.
Do any other master cylinders just bolt on with the existing calipers, Yamaha or otherwise? I don't need the mirror mount as previously fitted fairing mounted mirrors.
Cheers
Dean

..... a quick search on the part number (4TXW25870000) for the whole master cylinder suggests it's the same on the TDM850 too.

Haha thanks, it's was yesterday but no master cylinder.... But cash to buy one so does that count?
Thanks for the tip on the tdm850 master, I have looked at a few on eBay and they do look identical.
For those that have done the full blue spot conversion, are they that much of an improvement over standard brakes with sintered pads and braided lines?

For those that have done the full blue spot conversion, are they that much of an improvement over standard brakes with sintered pads and braided lines? I liked them on one of my D9's, but it helps that they were already fitted, at someone else's expense . On my other two D9's, just the standard set up seemed good enough, in the main. So personally, I'd not spend my own money on the mod. (Mind, you don't know how tight I am!)

Mine cost £80 for R6 calipers and master cylinder with braided hoses and sintered pads on top. But the last two were needed anyway so I went for the blue spots. My old brakes were ok but the blue spots transformed the bike.
