So my new (to me)divvy 900 (92) speedo stopped working as my mate was on his way off to drop it off to me, unfortunately he forgot to bring the Haynes manual, so I have to wait 3 weeks!! Does anyone have an electronic version? Or able to give me help with the speedo,(I'm guessing cable...) Pics would also be good, will be my first job on a bike, so would like it to go well!
Next question, where do people get parts from? For car parts, I just use my local motor factors, is there a motorbike equivalent?
Thanks
Paul

Could be the cable become detached at one end or the other. Fairly easy to spot but if it's the speedo end aa bit awkward to get to (probably).
An electronic version of Haynes can usually be found on the Black Bears Motorcycles Club site (a Russian website but seems to be virus free).
Most bike bits can be got from Wemoto at reasonable prices. Always worth shopping around though.

Yes, mine fell off at the speedometer end. Shine a torch up into the left hand side of the fairing and have a look. I managed to get at it by removing the screen and clock surround*. However, I could get it only finger tight this way and used some silicone sealant underneath the threaded ring to stop it coming undone. Later, when I had the fairing off, I did it up tight and taped it for good measure. So far I have bought most of the bits for my Cat C damaged D9 secondhand off Ebay. I did buy one new part from: www.bike-parts-yam.com/ Then there is: www.cmsnl.com/yamaha_model8287/ And, as above, Wemoto - or Yamaha dealers. But if you're careful what you buy, most (though not all) bits are available on Ebay second hand, i.e. cheap! I've just bought a working fuel level sender for under £20 delivered. The first one I bought was broken and the dealer was happy to refund. *Undo six screen screws and remove screen. Undo the four holding screws for the clock surround. Now pull out the rubber mounted holding 'nuts' or plugs that the screen screws screw into (I had to use long nosed pliers on some of these). The clock surround is removed by pushing one side inwards towards the clocks and away from the fairing. If it's like mine it'll make a horrible noise as it comes out.

You don't have to go hunting for 'em then .

Anyway, admin should stick to admin duties instead of giving duff advice

may well wait till I get the manual I think! You might find someone with dinky hands on Trev's run next weekend. Or we can take it apart at the lunch stop .

If you want to find out if your cable inner is actually broken, I think you can withdraw the cable inner from the bottom end. I'm sure that's how I greased mine but it was a while ago.

The speedo head ring nut is hard to tighten properly. When it unscrews the cable falls onto the road and the captive nut is bashed in seconds. If the bottom end comes loose the inner cable will slide out onto the road. But at least that's usually just a bit gritty.
Use some cable ties to hold the speedo cable in place. Dont alter its natural route just use the ties to hold the cable up if the nut comes loose. A few ties will save you buying yet another speedo cable.
Tie a long cable tie to the speedo cable top end with a small tie. Then the speedo cable can swing about but cant drop.
