Strange one this. This is difficult to explain and it started after the bike had been stood for a week, there is a loud howling noise The noise has a very small, very fast vibration in it? You cannot feel the vibration it's just within the noise? In the subject I've put at 30mph but if I'm going slower but into a head wind it starts up so I'm thinking it's got to be fairing related but it sounds like it's from under the tank? Has anybody else had this before I start ripping the bike apart? I have a feeling it's going to be a lot of head scratching, stripping and rebuilding to get to the bottom of this.

Not had this but it does sound like a fairing issue. My 900 used to have a resonant vibration at certain speeds which could be stopped by holding onto the screen in just the right place - not terribly convenient when riding ! Finally tracked it down to a section of the screen rubbing on the fairing (worn paint gave it away) so I put a bit of inner tube the size of a postage stamp between the offending parts and it cured it. As you suggest - plenty of head scratching required

Thanks folks. The cats don't get anywhere near due to the dogs but tomorrow will tell if there is any form of wildlife stuck in there. :-)

I had this issue with my D6 a couple of months back ....the D6 has small plastic grills....these were loose but only slightly yet enough to create a noise like you describe....Ill bet theres something either on or inside your fairing causing this....maybe cable ties....

I had a similar problem which turned out to be the screen. One of the mounting bolts rubbers was a loose fit in the fairing. It was solved by wedging a small piece of polystyrene between the screen and the instrument cowl until I can get around to removing the screen and repairing the hole in the fairing

On my ZZR600 I once left the airbox bolts slightly loose. THat made a horrible noise at about 20-30mph, mined ewe it was accompanied by a loss of power too.

Removed the screen and clocks surround and found a bolt holding the front of the fairing spinning in the wind. Tightened up and now sorted. Hard to believe the noise that 1 loose bolt made? ?? Cheers Everybody

Cheers Everybody Well done for finding it It does sound amazing but I guess it created a "whistle". Well worth knowing though as that sort of thing can be really hard to track down. As you know

Well done finding this one.
Sometimes a minor bump can distort the fairing subframe. The plastic then wont fit exactly right so it rubs and rattles. For anyone with a fairing noise that wont settle down - take off all the plastic then look very closely to see where its not lining up. It can be a 3D chinese puzzle but worth the effort.
