Has anyone seen or experienced cracked tyres recently? My front Maxxis tyre has cracked over half way round the tyre Another guy at work has a Maxxis rear which has started to break up after just 300 miles I have contacted Maxxis and they have gone awfully quiet.

Is that a front tyre (I can't see a F or R code after the size)? And have you been getting it leaned over right to the edge, or is that bobbly effect on the surface just the normal finish of the tyre?
I ask because most front tyres I've come across the profile seems to go a lot further round, so there isn't so much of an "edge" as such.
I could kind-of see how a rear tyre might tear in that way if a lot of power has been put down while the bike's on its side. But unless Casey's been riding it and trailing a load of front brake into a corner, I can't work out how it might happen on a front.
I can guess what Maxxis will say (if they say anything) - you've been running it under/over inflated, not our problem.

Clive - If you need another cheap 120/60 tyre I stocked up with a couple of D208's a few months ago when Moto-Tyres had them on sale. You're welcome to one for what I paid for it (I'd have to check but I think it was only £20).

That's a bit worrying, mate - is that the Diamond things ? I've not had any problems with the Supermaxx ones I've fitted, but seeing that has put me off buying any more Looks like a fairly basic manufacturing problem - maybe at the curing part of the process when the tread is formed

I fitted a Supermaxx pair last September and have recently replaced the rear - worn out but no signs of failure anywhere. The front is still going strong. I would have another, but after this I'll be look more carefully for cracks.

Looks like a bad batch maybe an incorrectly mixed compound at manufacture doesn't it?
Not good - especially if they're a bit slow addressing the issue. Don't they know how quickly word like this spreads?

This muchly - they've been working hard for the past few years to enhance their reputation, and a few cases like this will see it all come crashing down. Shame, because I really like the Supermaxx sports

Glad this thread was posted up, because I decided not to take the chance with Maxxis after reading these comments. I cancelled the order and now going back to deciding what to buy again

I've been well happy with mine. They are the first I've had on the D9 that did not lose the back end handling for the final 1000 miles. I recently fitted a Conti Motion on the back but only because the local guy had some going cheap and my closest Maxxis supplier is 20(ish) miles away.

that's not due to under inflation, I see under inflation tyres regularly and the damage is always on the inside, caused by the rim wearing on the tyre, this never happens on bikes, because an under inflated tyre to the extent it damages it, would be scary to ride Take it back to the supplier!

Ah, just had a look at the long list of exclusions, and obviously you've been using the wrong sort of snow chains.

My brother recently used his Breva with the rear tyre punctured - "It'll get me home". It did, but cost him a nearly new tyre and some paint rubbed off the wheel rim. The tread was undamaged but side walls were full of holes and the tyre was full of rubber dust.

How old is it? Could it have been stored a long time in an unsuitable environment?

When I posted pics of my rear Diablo, which had 'cut's along the side walls, everyone just assumed I had a local enemy who was out to get me .
