Hi all, Hoping this finds someone who can help me. The Oil cooler pipes on my 95 Divvy 900s have begun to leak. It started of as a drip, but I just rode home from work and it started to leak quite badly causing me to leave a trail of smoke behind me down the A41..... Was not in the blokes good books behind me as I think I may have splattered his Mercedes in oil a wee bit!! I have looked and it appears to coming out of the Oil cooler pipers which run from the side of the Oil filter into a couple of bushes then into the oil radiator. The leak appears to be coming from the region of the bushes, half way up the front of the engine. It looks easy enough to access and change (maybe I'm fooling myself, any tips appreciated) but does anyone know of how and where I can get replacements?? Many thanks in advance for any help guidance given Wayne

The oil pressure isn't very high (under 100psi), so oil hose is plenty strong enough. Then find a suitable universal cooler and junk the old Divvie cooler with its weak connectors. Oil hose can be run up from the cut off metal pipes.
If you fit a cooler in front of the frame tubes to be sure the front wheel wont hit it on full bump.

CD and HRH Penfold,
Thanks for your replies.
I don't believe I need the Oil Cooler as well, it's just the pipes.
Could I get some 8/10 mm copper pipe and and replace them myself?....... I will check out the dealers to see if they provide replacement pipes first tho.....
Thank you for the suggestion of the oil hose idea, as you say it may serve as a temporary fix and would be an easy job especially if the pressure isn't high.
Thanks
Wayne

Hi Wayne When i had my 900 had the same problem so i went to a motor factors and bought a lenght of rubber hose and 4 jubilee clips Then i cut through the metal shrouds that are crimped round the rubber pipe that hold them to the metal pipes Pulled the rubber pipes off cut the new pipe to length put two clips on the rubber pipe and pushed the rubber pipe over each end of the metal pipes then tightened the clips do the same to the other pipe and the jobs done

Use a small tube pipe cutter to cut the metal pipes leaving at least 1" of straight pipe poking from the fitting. Fit some suitable size oil hose using stainless jubillee clips (they will get hammered by road salt). You could get really neat with braided hose but that's only for show.
The snag with metal inserts is jointing the copper to the steel and not disturbing the banjos on the oil cooler. They are VERY fragile and will crack at the slightest excuse. There's also the issue of finding fittings to fit the existing oil pipes and getting a good solder joint is a real hassle when hot oil comes smoking through.
It would be worth junking the old cooler as its probably got all its zig-zag vanes peened over blocking the airlfow. You will need to get a universal cooler to fit the available space so its down to measuring & see what's available and making brackets.
eBay has coolers from about £35. Braided hoses with fancy captive nuts look good but aren't needed to cope with the pressure.
A thermostatic bypass valve would be a handy mod as it sure wont need oil cooling in deep winter.
