I had one of those Maxxis on the front of my D9. Bought the bike in early May, sold it last month. Tyre wasn't new - had 4mm thread when I acquired the bike. I put 5000+ miles on it & sold it with just about 3mm still on it. Best of all, it never gave cause for concern, & it was great in the wet . I can't say how it'd behave on more powerful machines, but it suited my D9 very well so I'd recommend it. (Rear was a Dunlop - so no help to you!)

5000 miles on 1mm of tread is VERY good going. Mine causes the front shoulders to get stepped and the rear to square off.
It handles great on Conti Road Attack but the back squares off by 4000 mikes so the last 1000 miles (to the limit) is very unpleasant. With that mileage I need something longer lasting.

I ain't kidding - I was expecting a hard tyre with accompanying poor grip. Only 50% of my expectations were upheld . (On my Fazer 1000 I havemy first set of Angel ST's. Sadly, whilst the rear has easily out-lasted my preferred old favourites, Diablos, the grip is very average, & actually rather poor in the wet.)

I have Maxxis on the FZ6 and while I am not a fast and sporty type of rider they seem pretty good to me, including in the wet.
I have however heard reports that they square off quite early, not something I have done sufficienty mileage to comment about.

Dave, My bro's liking the Michelin Pilot Roads on his D9. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290612071245I had these on the TDM, I couldn't fault them at all for grip, outstanding dry and wet! Sadly, no longer made, well at least not for my frustratingly odd size18" front.

I still love the Diablos even if wear isn't in the mega miles.

Try a pair of Maxxis.
I am on my second set of the Maxxis Sport touring tyres - front ones last for a million years and do not square off, which suprised the heck out of me - a first!
the rear I have gained about 8,000 to 10,000 miles doing motorway riding - the rear does square off, so it is up to you as to how far you go before you accept the ride as being too bad before you replace the rear.
I have never had the Avons but have had most BT20s/21s/23s and Road Attcks but for £140 for the Maxxis delivered it has got to be worth a go...

I've ended up with a pair of Maxxis Tourer tyres for £135 plus £30 fitting to the bike. They handle ok in the dry and hopefully they will last ok.

Conti Force are indeed discontinued, It was an OK tyre, but the front was a bit nervous in the wet. I now use Road Attacks. No problems! Charlie

UPDATE: Rear Angel ST has now seen 3700 miles & looks hardly worn. Still rubbish grip though - "premium tyre", I don't think so. Mind you, looks like it'll do the JR2012 there & back so if you can stand the rubbish grip I guess at least it's value for money.

Just fitted a Conti Motion to the rear. The front Maxxis looks barely 1.2 worn.
The Maxxix Supermax managed 7,500 on the back 90% motorway (and I've not been hanging about) and it was still gripping on full lean with no nasty stuff going over the worn centre onto the unworn shoulders.
But it had to go. While the tread grooves dont really cross the centreline, there was no visible tread down the middle 1" so its gone. I really dont what the insurance/Police etc giving me a hard time even though it was still handling fine even in the wet.

I've used the maxxis sport touring ones, and found them to be a bit loose at the rear when accelerating (this on my ZX-9) - didn't last long, either, the rear was gone by 3000 miles Weirdly, the maxxis supersport tyres I now have are excellent - grip forever, good in the wet and last ok.Got just over 3k out of the last rear, would have been more but for too many French motorway miles squaring it off.On my second set now, I think they were about £139 delivered.

Aw Naw!! just bought a pair of Angel ST for the TDM the guy on the counter said they were every bit as good / if not better than the Diablos that were on the bike !! not had the chance to try them out but hope that its a dry summer

.. just bought a pair of Angel ST for the TDM the guy on the counter said they were every bit as good / if not better than the Diablos that were on the bike !! Yep - that's what the guy who sold me mine said . Unlike the Diablo's, I found the rear took longer to settle too (to scrub in from new). So take it easy until you're sure they're ready. But they WON'T ever corner like Diablo's, even when well scrubbed in, even in the dry. I played with pressures a bit - didn't seem to help. I do like to power out of corners nice & early though - this is where they disappointed me most, with much less progressive drift than the Diablo's. (When they start to let go, it's not subtle!)

My usual comment re Maxxis Supermaxx. Front goes on for ever (currently 6000 miles plus and still plenty of tread on). Rear grips like glue and wears like cheese (change every 2000 to 2500 miles)!!
Maxxis have a new Supermaxx Diamond out apparently.
At the price they are probably more cost-effective than other tyres even if you have to change the rear more.

What size Maxxis are you using? I looked on their website and spoke to DK in stoke, and they don't do rear 130/70-18 (for my 600 Divvy).

Lately, I have seen a couple of maxxis with cracks appearing early on and I am a bit concerned. Anyone else seen any cracks in their tyres?
