I know I have read it somewhere here but can any one give me a ponter?
Every now and then (and becoming more now than then) my 1998 D9 will not start.
switch it off and on a few times and try....still no joy.
then turn it on and the tacho spins around to 9000 and then back to 0 then it starts!
I believe it is a fault code.
can anybody help on what it is?
Thanks in advance
Sean

9000 rpm is a fault code - manual says ignition circuit fault, take it to your Yahaha dealer! Relevant page of manual here:- HTH, Simon

Thanks Simon
A big help at ponting out where the fault lies...many many thanks for that.
I have just spent 2 hours with the tank off and the side panels off cleaning every single connector block I could see and get to which is just about all of them I think (incuding the clutch connector block.)
I am going to see how it goes over the next few weeks - I am not using the bike again until next wednesday so will see if it manifests again.
The non starting has happened on about 6 occasions over the last 2 months just as the weather has been turning so I am being optomistic that it could be a dodgy connection somewhere in the ignition circuit - logic says that if it was a component it would either work or completly not work - and as the bike has come back to start each time I think it might be in the connections within (as you say the ignition) circuit itself - does that make sense to you?
I am hoping that I have solved the problem because there were about 3 or four of the connector blocks that I found to be crudded up with the old green gunk - cleaned them all out and gave them a good dose of WD40....fingers crossed!
If the fault states to be an ignition circuit then it could be anywhere...time will tell.
If it is a specific solid state part of the ignition circuit I think it might not have been connecting properly with the green crud stopping it...fingers crossed!
Many thanks once again
Will post if it does fail again or be trouble free - either way.
Safe riding

I think these error codes can sometimes also be triggered by a failing battery But I may be wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time ) Good Luck Dave

Oddly, In 100k of D9 riding I have never had an error code.
I have had an ignition switch fail. Perhaps you know someone locally who could lend you a D9 ignition switch and try it for a while? Can I also suggest checking the connectors and wires on the ignition inhibiter circuit. sidestand switch gear position wire as well as clutch switch which you already have done.

I think the battery is good as it is only about 2 years old and with the bike being used most days on a good 110 mile round trip it has never struggled to start. Also when it does not start due to this current fault the battery seems to be fully turning over the starter motor no problem...I will keep am eye on it though - cheers Dave
Johnthebowman - I have had ALL the connectors apart on the bike and fully WD40'd up in EVERY connector block on the bike including all the main connections out of the right hand side main brain units...thanks for the tip.
Given that the bike has 104,000 miles on it and has been used for the past 4 years morning noon and night I think that cleaning out of the green gunk in the connector blacks has been overdue.
I will keep you posted how I get on - thanks guys

Seems it has been running Ok recently after cleaning ever connector going - I think spraying the key barrel and the right brake lever electrics up with wd40 might have helped as had no problems for about 2 months now. seems a common problem and from what JTB says it could be the ignition switch on mine - I can take the key out and leave the engine running so that tells you something me thinks. check this out too.. diversionclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=14291&page=1
